We have been involved in Wykop.pl since its very beginning. We created it from scratch 20 years ago, slotting into the emerging web 2.0 era on the Polish Internet. During the last decade, Wykop has become the biggest Polish social media platform and has over 8 milion users monthly. We have implemented a range of amenities during all this time to improve the user experience and website administration. At the moment, it’s a model example of a digital revolution in our portfolio.
A website visited by 8 million users monthly
The main goal for the platform creators was to create a solution that would help its users share their knowledge of various subjects in an intuitive way and comment on current affairs. The key task was to make a scalable solution that could later be developed and respond to the growing needs of Wykop.pl’s community. It was also important for the website’s interface to be easy to use both for the young and old generation of users. As time passed, improving the moderation of content added by users became a priority.
We started working on the project by analyzing the client’s needs during workshops with them. Based on the knowledge we got, we managed to quickly create the whole concept of the platform and clickable functional mockups. Making updates throughout the years, we put much effort into the aspect of usability and ease of using the website, so we made the path of adding articles and comments as easy as possible. In addition, we regularly run efficiency tests to ensure the stability of the system. Thanks to feedback from our users, we can quickly respond to their ever-changing needs and adjust the UX and UI to their expectations.
The effect of our 20 years of work is a modern and easy-to-use social news platform with over 80 million monthly page views. Thanks to implementing AI algorithms for automatic content moderation and blocking illegal posts, we’ve reduced the time needed to handle a moderation request by four times. In addition, as part of updating Wykop.pl, we migrated databases to a new architecture that guarantees increased security of personal data of 8 million users.
